Deploying High-Quality Instructional Materials (Module 1): Introduction to HQIM
In this unit, participants will be offered a fresh perspective on educational curriculum. They will explore the concepts surrounding the current national conversations on investing in better materials for school systems and the research that details what makes high quality instructional materials so effective. Lessons will focus on understanding the components that make a curriculum “high-quality” and help participants realize how true HQIM are different from typical, teacher-made materials that are too often used in school districts today. The lessons in this unit will also emphasize how to correctly leverage HQIM in order to improve instruction for all students and increase equity and student achievement for all.
Participants will learn how to identify high-quality materials for both math and reading instruction and acknowledge how the ability to appropriately select HQIM can increase teacher preparedness and feelings of self-efficacy.
